Total Wine & More to open Tukwila superstore Sept. 20
Total Wine & More will open a wine, spirits and beer superstore on Thursday, Sept. 20 in Tukwila across from the Westfield Southcenter Mall at 300 Andover Park West.
The company, which operates 85 stores in 13 states, opened its first Washington store earlier this summer in Bellevue. Voters approved Initiative 1183 last year to get the state out of the liquor business and privatize sales. That change became effective in June and opened the door for nationwide companies to do business in the state.
Similar to most Total Wine & More stores across the country, the Southcenter location will feature more than 8,000 wine, 3,000 spirits and 2,500 beers, according to a company media release. It will also offer more than 1,450 Washington wines, more than 55 Washington and Oregon distilled spirits and more than 540 Pacific Northwest beers.
Total Wine & More’s Southcenter store will feature a “Brewery District” beer tasting bar and special growler section with 12 taps highlighting Washington-brewed craft beers. The store includes several iPad information stations loaded with tasting and pairing notes and flat screen televisions featuring programming on winemakers, distillers and brewers from around the world.
Additional elements include an educational classroom complete with computers and Wi-Fi for regular tastings, consumer education courses, community meetings and special events, a climate-controlled wine cellar for rare selections and walk-in humidor for fine cigars and gifts.
Sales at the Bellevue store set national records for the company in the first two months.
“We are extremely pleased that Seattle area consumers are visiting our Bellevue location for their wine, beer and spirit needs,” said David Trone, who co-owns the company with his brother Robert. “We believe that the reason we are seeing record sales numbers at our first Washington state location is because we are filling a much needed market demand, and we hope that our vast product offerings and everyday low prices will fill that need in the South Sound area as well.”
The company plans to open a store in Spokane later this year and expects to open stores in Alderwood, Federal Way, Olympia, Silverdale and Vancouver at sites and dates to be determined.
The Maryland-based company started in 1991 with two stores in Delaware.
Store hours in Tukwila will be 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week, with tastings on select days. For more information about the Southcenter Total Wine & More, including employment opportunities, visit www.totalwine.com.
