Auburn's Ariana Kukors came up short in her bid for an Olympic medal Tuesday.

Kukors, the world record holder in the 200-meter individual medley, finished fifth in the final at the London Games.

Kukors, competing in her first Olympics, touched the wall in 2 minutes, 9.83 seconds.

China's Ye Shiwen took the gold in an Olympic-record 2:07.57, Australian Alicia Coutts settled for silver (2:08.15) and American Caitlin Leverenz grabbed the bronze (2:08.95).

Kukors qualified fourth in final field of eight swimmers.
