Police shooting: Man makes animal sounds, charges officer

From staff reports:

The Federal Way Police Department reports that an officer-involved shooting took place early Tuesday morning.

At about 2:40 a.m. Nov. 22, officers were dispatched to a domestic dispute at an apartment in the 31700 block of 50th Lane SW. Three adult males were at the apartment, and according to reports, one of the men was believed to be intoxicated and assaulting his roommates.

The suspect left through a back window and was on foot, according to the report. While searching an adjacent greenbelt, an officer was confronted by the 33-year-old male suspect. The suspect acted irrational, making animal type sounds. The suspect allegedly charged the officer, who drew his firearm and fired multiple shots, police said. A second officer also fired multiple shots. The suspect was struck in the leg and transported to Harborview Medical Center. The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, according to police.

The Federal Way police officers were not injured. Both are four-year veterans and have been placed on administrative leave, as per policy. The Renton Police Department will investigate the incident.

More information will be reported when available.
