Drivers should expect overnight closures this week on State Route 18 in Federal Way.

Crews will close one direction of the highway near I-5 while large concrete bridge girders are lifted into place. From July 27 through the morning of July 29, crews will close westbound SR 18 near I-5 from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday. A four-mile detour will direct traffic onto northbound I-5 to S. 320th Street, then onto southbound I-5.

Starting Aug. 8, the ramp from westbound SR 18 to northbound I-5 will be closed for the remainder of the month. Crews will be rebuilding the ramp to make room for a new flyover ramp. Traffic will be detoured onto northbound SR 99.

This work is part of a $112 million project to improve safety and ease congestion at the I-5/SR 18/SR 161 interchange. Click here to learn more.
