Fire destroys Federal Way condo complex
June 20, 2011 · 5:22 PM
South King Fire and Rescue responded to a fire around 2:50 p.m. Monday at Heritage condos, 113 S. 340th St. in Federal Way. Four families were displaced and in need of shelter, and eight apartment units were damaged, according to SKFR spokeswoman Donna Conner.
No residents at the condo complex were injured, and firefighters rescued several pets including a dog and a rabbit, Conner said. One firefighter was treated at a hospital after being hit on the head by a piece of sheetrock, Conner said.
As of Monday evening, firefighters had extinguished the blaze and were still at the scene. The condo complex suffered extensive damage. Initial reports showed the fire coming from the roof. Four apartments on the top floor received smoke and fire damage, and four apartments on the bottom floor received water damage, Conner said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
“The whole middle of the complex is gone,” Conner said. “It will take a while to figure it out.”
