Free recycling of Christmas trees and Styrofoam in Federal Way

Free curbside tree recycling will be offered from Dec. 27 to Jan. 7 to anyone wishing to participate in the service.

The service is available to all residents, regardless of whether they subscribe to yard waste collection. Single-family pick-ups will take place Dec. 27-31 on a person's regularly scheduled waste collection day, and Jan. 3-7 on a person's regularly scheduled waste collection day. Trees from multi-family complexes will be picked up Dec. 31 and Jan. 7. Property managers must call (800) 592-9995 to sign up for the service. All trees must be curbside by 7 a.m. on collection days. Trees taller than 6 feet must be cut in half. Decorated and flocked trees will not be accepted and will be charged as garbage. Call (253) 835-2771 or visit cityoffederalway.com/recycling.

Recycle Styrofoam

Residents may recycle Styrofoam blocks from Dec. 27 to Jan. 21 at City Hall, 33325 8th Ave. S. Only clean, white blocks will be accepted. Cups, food trays, foam sheeting and plastic wraps will not be taken. Styrofoam blocks will have a “#6” or “EPS” printed on the inside of the block.
