Woodmont Elementary evacuated due to gas leak

Woodmont Elementary School, 26454 16th Ave. S. in Des Moines, was evacuated about noon today due to a gas leak.

The students and staff were transferred to Federal Way High School for the day. Parents may pick up their children at the high school, 30611 16th Ave. S. (located off Pacific Highway South at South 308th Street).

The Federal Way School District awaits word from Puget Sound Energy as to the cause of the leak and extent of repairs, said district spokeswoman Edie Jeffers.

"There was a small leak on the outside and the odor was starting to seep inside of the building," she said.

More details to come.
