The Bikes for Kids program at Marine View Presbyterian Church fixes and donates about 300 bicycles a year to Federal Way children.

On Dec. 22, volunteers delivered a batch of 45 bikes to Steel Lake Presbyterian Church for the annual Christmas House. Through the Multi-Service Center, families make an appointment to "shop" for toys and gifts at the church's gymnasium.

Bikes for Kids is headed by Bill Peterson and Don Cowan, who got involved nine years ago after fellow Marine View church member Betty Long sought people to continue her father's program.

The bike shop is open 9 to noon Tuesdays and Saturdays at Marine View Presbyterian Church, located along State Route 509 in Dash Point. To learn more, volunteer or donate, call (253) 839-9586.
