String musicians to play classics

Music composed by Beethoven, Bach, R. Vaughan Williams and Elliot Del Borgo will be performed by the 937 string players in the Federal Way school district.

The South Federal Way String Festival will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Decatur High School, with assistant district superintendent Mark Davidson as master of ceremonies. The North Federal Way String Festival will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Federal Way High School. Superintendent Tom Murphy will be master of ceremonies.

Each festival will features students from 12 elementary schools, three junior high schools and all three high schools in the district.

Auction at FW

The Federal Way High School ASB will sponsor an auction next Tuesday to raise funds for extracurricular activities and athletic programs for the 2002-03 school year.

A silent auction will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a live auction at 8. Items up for bid include vacation packages and golf adventures, computer software, gift, flower and food baskets, and restaurant certificates. Tickets are $5 at the door. To donate auction items, call 945-5400.

Open house at Truman Center

The public can talk to staff and find out about programs offered at The Truman Center, a fully accredited high school, during an open house. at 7 p.m. April 4 at the school, 31455 28th Ave. S. More information is available at 945-5800.

VICA students at state conference

Two Federal Way High School students will compete at the State Skills USA/Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA) Conference in April.

The students represented Federal Way at the Northwest Regional Conference held at SeaTac Occupational Service Center in Burien in February.

Aaron Costa placed second in the Leadership Action Skills Demo event. Colin VanAssche placed first in the Skills Basic Electronics event.

Enterprise wants rummage items

Enterprise Elementary PTA is seeking donations of items for a rummage sale to be held April 26-27. Like-new or gently-used items can be dropped off from 3 to 5 p.m. Fridays and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays at the school, 35101 Fifth Ave. SW.

Proceeds from the sale will provide funds to update technology and reading materials at Enterprise. Call 945-2600.

Internet Academy plans open house

Staff at the Federal Way Internet Academy will answer questions about course offerings and enrollment during upcoming open houses. They will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 11-12 and 20 at 32020 First Ave. S., Suite 109. For additional information, call 945-2247.

FW dance team fourth in Yakima

Federal Way High School’s Dance Team participated in the WIAA State competition for dance and drill the weekend of March 15 at the Sundome in Yakima.

The E-Gals took fourth place in the dance category and received the WIAA Academic State Champion Scholar Award for the 4A Division. Sheena Vince Cruz earned fourth place in the advanced individual award for Drill Downs.

Nineteen girls participated in the competition. Pat Adkins is the advisor.
