Reading program scheduled for SeaTac Mall
Literacy Month events in Federal Way will continue this Saturday with the Reading Around the World Literacy Fair at SeaTac Mall.
Starting at 11 a.m. in the Bon Courtyard, stories will be read in multiple languages, participatory dramas will be staged, and authors will speak and sign their books. Games, arts and crafts and information booths also are planned.
The family-oriented events organizer is the Open Books Open Minds Literacy Committee.
The schedule includes:
11:30 a.m., Debbie Goetz and firefighters reading about fire safety.
Noon, author Gudran Ongman reading Sleep Ponies and teaching how to draw ponies.
1 p.m., author Joni Sensel reading Bears Barge In and leading arts projects with environmental themes.
2 p.m., Chizuko Smith demonstrating Chinese calligraphy.
3 p.m., Sensel reading her book Garbage Monster.
4 p.m., word games and readings in English and other languages (every half hour between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.).
5 p.m., author Karena Karull on Drama Made Easy.
6 p.m., a performance by Radical Youth Invasion.
7 p.m., author Ann Rule talking about writing and literacy, and afterward signing copies of her crime book.
