The weather gods smiled down on Federal Way for the 55th annual Kiwanis Salmon Bake, held July 29 at Steel Lake Park, 2410 S. 312th St. Click here to view a photo slideshow.

The Kiwanis Club served about 600 meals and had sold even more tickets to the fundraiser. The event usually raises between $10,000 and $12,000 every year to benefit local charities and children.

Some of the Kiwanis biggest contributions are to several college scholarships for Federal Way students. The club supports the Multi-Service Center, Federal Way Senior Center, FUSION, Caregiving Community Network Supper, PTSA Clothing Bank and more.

The Federal Way Noon Kiwanis meets at noon Wednesdays at Old Country Buffet on South 320th Street (across from the mall). Upcoming guest speakers include Cascade Blood Services area director Robin Lulich (Aug. 3), Federal Way Symphony executive director Mary Gates (Aug. 10) and Wild Waves Theme Park CEO Jeff Stock (Aug. 17). Learn more about Kiwanis at www.federalwaykiwanis.org or email Jim Knapp at kna194@msn.com.
