Island music master Germán López performs Sept. 17 in Federal Way

The Performing Arts and Event Center welcomes Germán López at 3 p.m. Sept. 17 at the PAEC, 31510 Pete von Reichbauer Way S. in Federal Way.

Hailing from Gran Canaria off the coast of Africa, López is a renowned master of the timple (pronounced “tim-play”), a five-string instrument that looks like a ukulele and orginates from the Canary Islands. His primary instrument belonged to his grandfather.

Sharing the stage with guitarist Antonio Toledo, López will perform music from multiple cultures, such as Spanish flamenco, West African rhythms, jazz and a 21st-century approach to island music.

Tickets for the performance are on sale now at www.fwpaec.org or by calling 253-835-7010.
