‘It’s Only Rock and Soul’ features auction for drumheads signed by Pete Best, Mick Fleetwood, Hal Blaine

In a musical tribute to classic rock and soul, Centerstage Theatre will auction off autographed drumheads by three of rock's most famous drummers.

During its musical tribute to classic rock and soul, Centerstage Theatre will auction off drumheads autographed by three of rock’s most famous drummers.

“It’s Only Rock and Soul” opens May 10 and features seminal hits of the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s.

Attendees can bid via silent auction on drumheads signed by  Pete Best, original drummer for The Beatles who was replaced by Ringo Starr; Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac, whose album “Rumours” was a mega-hit in the 1970s; and Hal Blaine, a session musician who played for superstars including Elvis Presley, John Denver, the Ronettes, Simon and Garfunkel, the Carpenters, the Beach Boys, Nancy Sinatra, the Wrecking Crew and the 5th Dimension.

Longtime Centerstage patrons Don and Peggy Doman dug into their rock memorabilia collection to donate the drumheads. The Domans regularly bring their family to Centerstage productions, including favorites like the annual English panto.

“I hope it brings some money, but I also hope it brings more people,” Don Doman told The Mirror about the donation.

Alan Bryce, artistic director for Centerstage, said proceeds from the drumhead auction will help fund the not-for-profit theater company.

“Any gift we get is very significant, more significant than it would be for one of the bigger theater companies around,” he said.

David Duvall, music director for Centerstage, created the show featuring the works of artists such as Janis Joplin, Elton John, The Beatles, Elvis Presley and several Motown legends.
