I thought living a green lifestyle would be very expensive and take too much time.

Fortunately, I was wrong. And now I’m happy to share some tips with readers on how they can protect the environment and not break the bank.

First of all, I purchased my reusable water bottle at a dollar store. You just can’t get anymore cost friendly than that.

Secondly, we buy shampoo and conditioner in one bottle so we only need to rinse out one container before we recycle it.

Next, I am making my own bread. That doesn’t sound like a big deal but consider this: The loaves of bread that we buy in the store are brought here by trucks that use a lot of gasoline. Plus, the bread comes wrapped in plastic bags, which I’m guessing never get recycled.

When I buy flour, it’s in a paper sack, and I can make countless loaves from one five-pound sack. Also, I can recycle that sack.

And did you know you can make money by being green?

Sell those aluminum pop and beer cans you just emptied for a profit. Also, if you really want to help the environment, pick up cans that are lying on the side of the road and sell those too.

Look on the Internet or in the phone book for your nearest recycling center. You’ll be glad you did!
