Federal Way should fund fume monitoring

Federal way is also under thousands of airplanes every day.

Remember the “smoke storm” last summer? How we all suffered indoors, unable to safely be outside, for weeks in the best season of the year?

Federal way is also under thousands of airplanes every day. What impact do the fumes from these planes going over all day have on our air quality? We don’t know.

The closest air monitoring sites to our city are down in Auburn, and on the Tide Flats in Tacoma, miles away and at a different elevation, nowhere near the flight path for airplane fumes.

I feel it is time that Federal Way city government correct this. It is time to have our own air monitoring station. We need to know if it is safe to go outside in our neighborhoods. For our health, it is essential that we know.

Please join me in asking the City Council to appropriate funds for this essential endeavor.
