Juried art show winners: Exhibit at City Hall
February 2, 2010 · 1:11 PM
The works of three local artists are enjoying an extended stay at Federal Way City Hall, thanks to their selection as winners in a 2009 juried art show. The exhibit, which runs through March 9, is free and open to the public, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 33325 8th Ave. S. The following artists’ works are featured:
• Kathy McFall-Butler (watercolor), Commissioner’s Choice Award: McFall-Butler uses the patterns, colors and textures of the Northwest in her paintings, working very closely from personal snapshots. She is a lifelong Washingtonian and a Federal Way resident since 1984.
• Daniel Hershman (photography), People’s Choice Award: Hershman’s main photographic interests lie in the natural beauty of our region, including the night sky, wildlife and the underwater world. He has lived in Federal Way for more than 40 years and is a photographer, musician and teacher.
• Pat Longley (encaustic on panel), Commissioner’s Choice Award: Encaustic is beeswax blended with resin and colored powdered pigments that are kept molten on a heated palette. To Longley, one of the joys of encaustic painting is its luminosity—the layers of pigmented wax deliver unusually vibrant colors in a unique way. She was born in Seattle and has always enjoyed living in the Northwest.
