It's the holidays with the symphony

The Federal Way Symphony’s December Holiday Pops Concert, featuring marimba soloist Andrei Martynov, is scheduled for two shows this weekend.

Performances will be at 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke’s , 515 S. 312th St. in Federal Way. Ticket prices are $25 for adults and $20 for seniors 65 and older. Admission is free for anyone 18 and under. Information is available from the symphony at 529-9857 and www.federalwaysymphony.org.

“A Young Person’s Guide to Orchestra Music” by Benjamin Britten, a study of various orchestral sounds, will be performed along with selections from Peter Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker Suite.” Traditional holiday music also is on tap.

Martynov, the guest artist, was born in Moscow. He has played in the Moscow Philharmonic, the International Youth Metro Orchestra, and the Russian Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra. He now is principal percussionist for the Moscow Symphony Orchestra.
