Look, Clara, it's 'The Nutcracker'

Love. Transformation. Valiant battles between soldiers and mice. Sugar plums. Clara.

It’s all part of “The Nutcracker,” the holiday stage tradition that audiences flock to see in the final weeks before Christmas.

Two “Nutcracker” productions are in south King County. Others are a relatively short drive away.

Ninth Avenue School of Dance: Federal Way-based school’s eighth annual production; 7 p.m. Dec. 16, 2 and 7 p.m. Dec. 17 and 5 p.m. Dec. 18 at Knutzen Family Theater, 3200 SW. Evergreen City Ballet: Choreographed by Wade Walthal and joined by the Rainier Symphony. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 9, 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 10, and 1:30 and 5:30 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Auburn Performing Arts Center, 700 E. Main St. in Auburn. Ticket prices are $15-$30 at the door, $12-$25 by calling (253) 833-9039 by Dec. 6.

Tacoma City Ballet: With music by Northwest Sinfonietta Dec.; performances at Pantages Theater in Tacoma at 1 and 5 p.m. Dec. 10, 17-18; at 1 p.m. Dec. 11 and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 23. Ticket prices: $28-$40. Sugar Plum Teas Dec. 10-11 and 17-18. Call (253) 591-5894.
