Summer Sounds concerts hit the beach

Dock Town will open Federal Way’s outdoor concert season next Wednesday by taking listeners back in time.

The three-man, one-woman band will play vintage jazz and blues from 7 to 8 p.m. at Steel Lake Park. And just because some of it will date to the 1920s and ’30s doesn’t mean it isn’t “hot,” said Candace Brown.

“There’s a nostalgia factor, but people of all ages like it,” said Brown, a vocalist and banjo player for the group that’s the opening show of the Summer Sounds at the Beach concert series.

The music “has very driving rhythms and melodies that stick in your head,” she said.

Brown, her husband Dave, Bob Jackson and Paul Woltz formed Dock Town about a year ago in response to requests from festivals around the state for a band of their type.
