Trio packs 'Waite' with families

Mirror staff

Brian Waite, who grew up in a musical family, will bring a family-oriented band that bears his name to Federal Way for tonight’s installment of the Summer Sounds at the Beach concert series.

The hour-long performance, starting at 7 p.m. at Steel Lake Park, will feature a musical show “for the whole family,” as Brian Waite Band bills itself.

Comedy, audience participation, dancing and games are mixed with music. The latter ranges from “child-friendly” tunes to reggae, jazz and rock.

Waite, the band’s lead singer, began playing and writing music at a young age. In the 1990s, he operated a children’s gymnastics center near Lake Washington. That experience, plus fatherhood (he has two sons), turned him into a songwriter for kids.

The other band members are drummer Todd Gray, whose been with Waite since his first live performance, and bassist Cliff Swiggett.

Guitars, harmonicas and kazoos are other instruments backing the lyrics of the trio.
