Mirror staff reports:

Jazz LIVE at Marine View will present a free concert for all ages at 5 p.m. March 11, featuring Rich Wetzel and his Groovin' Higher Jazz Orchestra.

Wetzel displays, front and center, his powerful, high energy trumpet artistry, backed by a 15-piece big band of accomplished musicians. His playing has received accolades from no less an authority than trumpet legend Wayne Bergeron, and his name appears on Arturo Sandoval’s list of influential trumpet players.

Wetzel is equally adept at beautiful, lyrical phrasings or soaring over the top of his orchestra on a power ballad, revealing the influence of Maynard Ferguson’s style on his playing. He also has served as horn section leader for the likes of The Ojays, The Spinners, the Four Tops, Wayne Newton and Smokey Robinson. This is a can’t-miss concert for those who love the sounds of an entertaining big band.

The concert is at Marine View Church, 8469 Eastside Dr. NE, Tacoma. Visit www.marineviewpc.org or call (253) 229-9206.
