Pianist, vocalist and smooth jazz luminary Tom Grant will appear on Sunday at the monthly Jazz Live at Marine View series.

The Portland, Ore.-based Grant has been performing and recording for three decades. He's performed on "The Tonight Show," and four of his albums have hit No. 1 on adult contemporary charts. Grant's career took off in 1970 when he moved to New York to play with saxophonist Jim Pepper. He began performing with legendary drummer Tony Williams, a progenitor of jazz fusion and a former member of Miles Davis' band.

Grant eventually moved back to Portland, started his own record label, and created a series of albums that topped smooth jazz charts. He gigs regularly in the Portland area. Grant will be joined by bassist David Captein, a longtime collaborator, Jeff Frankel on drums and Renato Caranto (who played on Grant's newest release, "Delicioso") on tenor saxophone. The show starts at 5 p.m. March 13 at Marine View Church at 8469 Eastside Drive Northeast, Tacoma. Admission is free. To learn more, call (253) 229-9206 or visit marineviewpc.org.
