Mary Gates Endowment

The Mary Gates Endowment for Students at the University of Washington announced 112 awardees for its scholarship. The endowment promotes undergraduate scholars through financial and community support in research projects and leadership building experiences. This year, over 500 University of Washington applicants were judged on their quality of experience, academic achievements and growth in their fields. From Federal Way, winners were Tyler James McKay, with instant magnetosonoporation (MSP) who is working on cell labeling for MRI tracking of stem cell migration; and Christopher William Mount with encapsulation of doxorubicin within polymeric micelles to improve penetration in 3-D tumor models.
