Smoke alarm saves woman

A woman was saved after her working smoke detector alerted her to a fire in her home at 1025 SW 306th St. The woman grabbed her cat and cell phone as she left. When firefighters arrived just after 1 a.m. Dec. 13, they saw smoke and flames visible out the front window and flames out the living room window. Firefighters had the fire out in about 11 minutes. An investigator determined the cause to be combustibles too close to a baseboard heather. Damage is estimated at $60,000.
