From staff reports:

National Night Out, a community-oriented celebration aimed at combatting crime and letting people take back their neighborhoods, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year on Aug. 6.

Here in Federal Way, activities are scheduled from 6-9 p.m., and anyone interested can contact Lindsey Tiroux at the Federal Way Police Department (FWPD) Crime Prevention Unit at (253) 835-6707 or by email at lindsey.tiroux@cityoffederalway.com.

Those interested are also urged to speak with their neighborhood homeowners association, block watch or similar organization to get the ball rolling. Neighborhoods that have participated in the past few years have typically had a community barbecue or similar event to bring people together for the evening.

FWPD officers and South King Fire and Rescue crews will be on hand at registered events.
