TJHS math team produces multiple state champions

The 20th annual Mu Alpha Theta State Math contest was held March 23. Thomas Jefferson High School’s team finished first overall in Sweepstakes. Each participant took multiple tests. From TJHS, 11 state champions emerged.

Participants were in one of three divisions: Mu (Calculus), Alpha (Pre-Calculus), or Theta (Algebra 2). Results of Thomas Jefferson High School students:

• Paul Jaquish – Mu Matrices and Vectors, and Number Theory

• Youjun Suh – Mu Sequences and Series

• Tiffany Luu – Alpha Mental Math

• Andrew Min – Alpha Speed Math, and Alpha Matrices and Vectors

• Jacinta Clay – Alpha Complex Numbers

• Justin Kim – Theta Mental Math

• Daniel Kim – Theta Speed Math, Theta Logs and Exponents, and Theta Equations and Inequalities

• Joe Park – Theta Complex Numbers

• Brian Hur – Theta Matrices and Vectors

• Richard Chung – Theta Sequences and Series

• Daanish Kaazi – Chalk Talk

In Jeopardy, Thomas Jefferson placed 4th, and in Team Relays placed 3rd.
