Pirate Neu reads to Lake Grove kindergartners
November 16, 2012 · 3:18 PM
National Young Readers Week was Nov. 12-16. Dressed in his pirate costume, Superintendent Rob Neu visited kindergartners in Mrs. Biggerstaff’s class at Lake Grove Elementary on Tuesday.
Students dressed in their handmade pirate hats sat in eager anticipation. With his eye patch and metal hook, Neu read the book “How I Became a Pirate” by Melinda Long.
Neu brought his treasure chest of booty full of chocolate-filled gold coins. He gave each student a certificate for a free Pizza Hut pizza to encourage them to keep reading.
Lake Grove’s family liaison, Carmen deChabert reached out to Neu with the blessing of new principal Doug Rutherford.
"As family liaison, I believe in encouraging and equipping families with the tools and strategies they need to help their students be successful at school and at home. Reading is a key ingredient in that success," deChabert said.
