From staff reports

The Federal Way Diversity Commission has planned several events this year to celebrate Martin Luther King Day. The theme for this year’s events is “Triumph... in a world of possibilities.”

From 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 16, the diversity commission and the Federal Way School District will host a Senior High Summit at La Quinta Inn, 32124 25th Ave. S. Students from the district’s five high schools will discuss the MLK theme, peer pressure and other issues that hinder success.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 19, the diversity commission will host a food drive at Metropolitan Market, Top Foods, the 312th Street Albertsons, Super Wal-Mart and the 320th Street Safeway.

Beginning at 10 a.m. Jan. 19, students will partner with Habitat for Humanity on a community service project in Federal Way’s Westway neighborhood.

From 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 21, the city will present the diversity commission’s annual tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. at the Decatur High School Performing Arts Center, 2800 S.W. 320th St. The program will feature a speaker and entertainment.
