Federal Way High School Air Force JROTC is bound for Academic Bowl
From staff reports:
The Federal Way High School AFJROTC academic team competed against more than 200 teams from around the world to advance to the championship round in Washington, D.C., this summer.
One of the main goals of the AFJROTC Academic Bowl is to prepare students for state exit/graduation exams as well as college entrance exams, such as the SAT and ACT. In each level of the competition, this fast-paced event tests their knowledge using SAT/ACT-type questions in the areas of JROTC curriculum, English, math and science.
Sixteen academic teams from Level II advanced to The 2012 Air Force JROTC Academic Bowl Championship in Washington, D.C., on the campus of George Mason University, June 22–26. The Federal Way team includes Varun Sharma, Blaise Pascual, Benjamin Swartz, Roger Arenas, David Yang (team captain) and Arishma Prasad.
The winner of the Air Force JROTC Academic Championship will compete against the winners of the Army JROTC and Navy JROTC Academic Bowls in the newly established JROTC Tri-Service Academic Bowl Championship.
The JROTC Academic Bowl is a nationally recognized academic competition created exclusively for AFJROTC students. By participating, cadets learn the values of citizenship, academic competition, and college opportunity. The competition creates tremendous opportunities for JROTC cadets by allowing them to demonstrate leadership and academic abilities.
