Massage for Health and Day Spa in Federal Way is celebrating 25 years in the community this month.

In 1989, massage therapy was just beginning to gain recognition as an alternative treatment for sports injuries and medical strains/sprains. Shelley (Wingard) Mehner and Wendy Corlett started Massage for Health with the help of Leslee Jo Peterson and Cindy Graham. Massage for Health grew from a two-room facility that offered only relaxation and medical massage, to the day spa that it is today with six rooms, offering a variety of services.

Massage for Health and Day Spa played a key role in helping the city of Federal Way draft reasonable licensing rules for secondary health care professionals, according to business officials. In 2001, Corlett left to pursue teaching full-time.

Mehner reorganized the business, allowing the spa to grow into what it is today. For information, visit www.mfhds.com.
