Simply Paws, a Federal Way pet store, donated between 2,500 and 3,000 pounds of dog food to Sunny Sky Rescue.

Sunny Sky’s Animal Rescue recently took in 23 sharpeis a family rescued from an unlicensed breeder in Issaquah. The couple that led the rescue effort, Kenny and Kristin Byrne, are customers at Simply Paws and asked for help caring for the dogs, said Simply Paws owner Jon Moore.

Simply Paws didn’t have room to board the dogs, but donating food was something the local pet shop could do, Moore said.

The dogs — 10 puppies under four months old and 13 dogs between 1 and 8 years old — were taken from filthy cages where they were kept with no exercise or vet attention.

Twenty-two of the 23 dogs are available for adoption, with the youngest being kept for urgent, life-threatening care.

For information on adoption, visit www.sunnyskyrescue.org or call the shelter at 253-845-8866. Sunny Sky’s Animal Rescue is located at 1102 East Main Ave. in Puyallup. The shelter is open 1-5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 12-3 p.m. on Saturday.
