The hot weather gave the Federal Way Community Center, 876 S. 333rd St., a boost in daily pass sales the last week of July, according to interim city manager Brian Wilson.

The center served as a cooling center during the region's higher-than-average summer temperatures. Residents were invited to spend their day in the cooled community section of the center, free of charge. However, several visitors sprang for a daily pass, Wilson said.

The center's average daily pass sales add up to 195 passes a day, Wilson said. On July 29, when temperatures reached the upper-90s or greater, the community center sold 535 daily passes, he said.
