New Chamber members

The Federal Way Chamber of Commerce announced new members during its monthly luncheon July 1 at Twin Lakes Golf and Country Club. New members are: Herman C. Chamber board

Federal Way School District Superintendent Tom Murphy has been named chairman of the Federal Way Chamber’s board of directors for 2009-2010. Murphy replaces outgoing chairman Dan Altmayer. At the July 1 membership luncheon, Murphy praised the Federal Way Chamber’s connection to the community as well as the role it plays in economic development.

Social networking for businesses

The South Sound Young Professionals (SSYP) will host a free informational session for local businesses interested in learning more about social networking. SSYP members will explain the ins and outs of Web sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, and how those sites can benefit businesses. The session will run 11:30 to 1 p.m. July 9 at the Federal Way Chamber office, at the northwest corner of South 320th Street and 1st Avenue South. Attendees are encouraged to bring a brown-bag lunch. Young professionals

The South Sound Young Professionals (SSYP) will also hold its inaugural networking event from 6 to 8 p.m. July 16 at McGrath’s restaurant at The Commons mall in Federal Way. The event is $5 and is open to professionals ages 21-40. E-mail heatherl@federalwaychamber.com.
