• A new program, StartZone, funded by a Small Business Administration grant, has been launched at Highline Community College (HCC) in Des Moines, Wash., to help immigrants, people of color, women and those with disabilities start and grow their own business.

Working individually and in groups, business specialists will help participants with business training, planning and development; accessing loans; and gaining peer support in business groups. These services are free to StartZone participants. English as a second language support and education are also available for a small fee; however, this can be waived depending on need.

StartZone participants must live or work in Southwest King County or be an HCC student. A StartZone application is required before participation and is available online at http://startzone.highline.edu or by calling (206) 878-3710, Ext. 3388.

• David Ranz, attorney, has opened a law office, David Ranz, PLLC, at 33530 1st Way S., Suite 102. He focuses on two practice areas: Personal injury and traffic citations.

The first area includes auto, semi-truck, motorcycle, pedestrian/vehicle and bicycle/vehicle accidents plus claims related to insurance bad faith, personal injury protection and underinsured or uninsured motorists.

• Dave Shumann has reopened the Red Wing Store in Federal Way, now located at 2016 S. 314th St., as the new owner and manager. Shumann has managed five different Red Wing stores in Washington over the past 15 years, most recently in Renton.

The Red Wing Company, which has more than 500 stores nationwide, is based in Red Wing, Minn. Product lines range from traditional work boots, which have been the staple of skilled workers for the past century, to outdoor footwear, Shumann said. • Sound Credit Union opened its newest branch in a new 3,800-square-foot building at 31908 21st Ave. S., across from The Commons mall. This is Sound’s 11th full-service branch and includes drive-through banking, drive-up ATM, safe deposit boxes and Saturday hours.

The new branch manager is Amy Allen, who has more than 15 years of banking and financial industry experience, including her most recent roles as a Horizon Bank office supervisor and Washington Mutual operations supervisor.

The headquarters of Sound Credit Union, founded in 1940, is located in downtown Tacoma. Other Tacoma branch locations are East Tacoma, Parkland and Westgate. Other Washington locations are Gig Harbor, Key Center (in Lakebay), Lakewood, Auburn, Olympia and Puyallup.
