Korea-U.S. trade seminar scheduled

The city of Federal Way and the Federal Way Chamber of Commerce will co-host a Korea-United States trade seminar next Thursday as part of the Han Woo-Ri Korean sports and cultural festival.

The seminar is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at La Quinta Inn and Suites in Federal Way. Organizers said the event will focus on trade opportunities with South Korea, technicalities of doing business there, cultural protocols, tourism and education.

Scheduled to speak are state Sen. Paul Shin, Seattle Port Commissioner Patricia Davis and Tacoma Port Commissioner Connie Bacon.

Trade with Pacific Rim countries is a significant part of the Puget Sound and Northwest regional economy, officials said. They noted that in 2003, the value of activity with South Korea out of the ports of Seattle and Tacoma ranked third-highest among all countries, despite South Korea’s economic slowdown.

Other Han Woo-Ri festival events in Federal Way are scheduled for May 13-15.
