Tom Pierson, an aide to Metropolitan King County Councilman Pete von Reichbauer, has been named president of the Federal Way Chamber of Commerce.

Pierson, who will begin his new duties today, was staff director for von Reichbauer since December 1993. He supervised daily operations of the councilman’s office and worked on Federal Way-area projects, including rebuilding the Redondo road and building of the annex at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.

He said businesses need the chamber of commerce to be a leader “in solving community problems” and regional issues, including transportation, workforce development and “economic vitality through business retention and recruitment activities.”

Pierson’s appointment was announced by the chamber’s board of directors, which conducted a search for a new chamber president after Dolores Shull resigned the position last September.
