Mirror staff reports:
DaVita Inc., a national company that specializes in kidney care and dialysis clinics, is moving one of its data centers with 350 employees to Federal Way.
DaVita has two offices in downtown Tacoma. One of the offices will move from the Columbia Bank Center on Pacific Avenue and will lease a building on the Weyerhaeuser campus in Federal Way. The other Tacoma office, located in the DaVita tower, employs about 550 people and will remain in Tacoma.
The target date for DaVita’s move to Federal Way workspace is April 2013. Jim Hilger, DaVita's interim CFO, told The Mirror that one of the perks of moving to Federal Way is that the city has no Business and Occupation (B&O) tax. The Federal Way office was chosen because of its proximity to the original location, Hilger said.
DaVita is headquartered in Denver, Colo., and has nearly 2,000 dialysis clinics across the United States, treating about 149,000 patients.
“Tacoma is an amazing city that has been and will continue to be home for most of DaVita’s ‘Team Evergreen,’ said Hilger in a news release. “With the new space, we’ve found a very good balance between a convenient location, a terrific workspace and a reasonable cost.”
